Peterson Meerschaum Rusticated Premier Silver Ferrule 314/312 (1972)

I just found out, while listing the pipe, that this earlier line could have been called “”golden supreme”, but please take this with a grail of salt.

We all know Peterson meerschaum pipes and how amazing they are, but this one is quite special compared to the ones I have seen before. I called it Premier because that is the word Peterson used for their higher grade meerschaum pipes with sterling silver ferrules. Most of our information about the meerschaum lines comes from the 1978–1979 Peterson-Glass catalog, but this pipe is from 1972…

The first oddity would be the shape, or to be more precise, the shape of the stem. The bowl looks like a 312 or a 314 — I lean more towards 312 — but the stem doesn’t match either of those two shapes. A 314 would have been as short, but with a different curve, and the 312 would have been a lot longer.

The second and bigger oddity is the colouring. It is not the classic grey or greenish tone most African meers have, and it is also not the yellowish tone of the pre-coloured ones. It has that rare peachy tone a lot of people, including myself, are after when it comes to Turkish meerschaum pipes. I can tell that the rim was fumed, but I have no idea if the bowl was pre-coloured or if that is natural coloration… either way, it makes this pipe unique.

Just one note on the condition: there are two small, horizontal deeper scratches on the top side of the stem near the base. Nothing major in my opinion, but still worth mentioning.

The pipes go through one final check before shipping, so if you notice any inconsistencies in the carnauba finish or smudges they will be taken care of before your pipe is shipped to you.
