When it comes to rare Peterson pipes, the Clay System pipes are amongst the rarest!

Even though they were produced since the very beginning, they are extremely hard to find — mainly because of their fragile nature.

I managed to date this one to the 40s or 50s. During the war years there was a big shortage of briar, and clays had a brief comeback.

When I smoked my first clay Pete, I was very surprised at how well it smoked… I was expecting something closer to the more traditional German clay pipes, but the thicker walls are a really good solution to the overheating issues clay pipes usually have.
