When I first got this pipe, I was very confused, since I had never seen anything like it before.

For starters, it had no smooth patch on the bottom and no stamps on the briar, but then the stem was even more confusing — it had the older flared style, but also a centred silver P inlay, which is used on the higher grades.

I asked more than a few people if they knew what it was, and no one did, but then Glen Whelan, Peterson’s Managing Director, solved the mystery for us. Apparently, in the 2000s, the German market ordered some pipes in this style because they didn’t like the smooth patch on the bottom…

Even though I don’t agree with them, I do like that, without any extra distractions, the stunning 360-degree ring grain is the centre of attention.

The pipes go through one final check before shipping, so if you notice any inconsistencies in the carnauba finish or smudges they will be taken care of before your pipe is shipped to you.
