Yet another gem for Peterson collectors — a pre-Republic System 3 shape 364 (the grade-3 version of the classic 314), made in England in the 1950s, presented here in mint restored condition with its box. The 314 family is easily one of the most versatile shapes in Peterson’s catalog and firmly in my personal top five. The pre-Republic stem shaping on these is exceptional — one of the best “perfect hanger” profiles Peterson ever produced.

This example shows a few natural briar imperfections, which is exactly why it received the grade 3 stamping and the 364 designation instead of 314. Far more unusual is the double COM: “Made in England” appears once on the side and once on the back — a stamping anomaly seen only rarely. The PETERSON’S SYSTEM 3 nomenclature is crisp and clear, while the other two stamps are faint yet still visible. Overall condition is as close to brand new as a smoked pipe of this age can realistically be.
