I almost never list a pipe if I haven’t done proper research on it… This specific one I have had for over 8 months and I knew it was very special, but I couldn’t figure out exactly what it was.

Literally two days ago I managed to connect the dots, of course with the help of some friends.

This probably deserves a whole YouTube video, but I will have to give you the short version here:

We all know that the biggest Danish pipe masters designed shapes for Stanwell, but at least one of them was actually commissioned to carve a limited number of pipes too, and that was Preben Holm. I am actually following a huge rabbit hole with Holm, which connects him to brands like Charatan’s as well.

The pipe itself is probably one of the best examples of what Preben Holm was capable of. In addition to it being drop-dead gorgeous, it is absolutely huge, but at the same time it somehow has 100% perfect geometry! As you can see from the photos, it is a perfect sitter, which looks almost impossible with such an interesting shape.

It has also been very lightly smoked — almost a Grade A2.

I don’t think I will ever find a better Stanwell!

The pipes go through one final check before shipping, so if you notice any inconsistencies in the carnauba finish or smudges they will be taken care of before your pipe is shipped to you.
