The time has come again to have one of these beauties on the site.
When it comes to Dunhills, there are three decades that are the most sought after:
1960s — a pipe from this decade would probably offer the best balance between price and quality. Still expensive, but old, probably still oil cured, and with some luck you can find a somewhat gnarly blast on a Shell Briar.
1930s — in this decade you will find all the crazy-looking blasts, infinitely better briar than in the 60s, and 100% oil-cured pipes, but the price basically doubles.
1920s — this is the best decade when it comes to Dunhill pipes… everything is as good as it gets, and the blasts are even more dramatic and extreme, as you can see from the photos.
People sometimes ask why the 1910s aren’t more sought after… well, in the 10s a lot of pipes were commissioned by other companies and not made in the Dunhill factory. This being said, I own two pipes from the 10s and they are my best-smoking Dunhills…
Condition note: the stamp is completely legible, but not 100% crisp. Also, there is a “line” on the smooth patch on the bottom — it is an organic line from the sandblast and not damage of any sort.
The pipes go through one final check before shipping, so if you notice any inconsistencies in the carnauba finish or smudges they will be taken care of before your pipe is shipped to you.
