Nach einer ersten Begutachtung werden sie in zwei Kategorien eingeteilt: Grade A und Grade B. Grade A and Grade B.
Diese Pfeifen werden vollständig nach meinen Standards restauriert. In jede einzelne fließt das gleiche Maß an Sorgfalt, Aufwand und Liebe zum Detail. Dennoch spielt der ursprüngliche Zustand der Pfeife weiterhin eine Rolle für das Endergebnis — besonders, wenn es um ethische Restaurierungen geht. Aus diesem Grund werden restaurierte Pfeifen zusätzlich in die Stufen A1–A5 unterteilt..
Grade-B-Pfeifen sind solche, die den Kriterien für eine Restaurierung nicht ganz entsprechen. Sie weisen keine größeren Probleme auf und können ohne großen Aufwand zu einer Grade-A-Pfeife restauriert werden. Sie sind ideal für alle, die selbst einmal versuchen möchten, eine Pfeife zu restaurieren.
