My love for pipes started with my first estate pipe — a 1978 Peterson Silver Spigot 03S. Probably the biggest role in that was played by the stunning unfiltered saddle spigot stem, and it literally ruined almost every other Peterson spigot design for me. You can find the same stem style on this 1985 999 too.

I used to dislike Dress / Ebony finishes, but over time I have really started to appreciate just how ultra-elegant they can be. I am even actively looking for a Dress pipe of my own now.

The only reason I am not keeping this one is that I have a very specific vision in mind for myself — a straight Dress pipe.

On this 999, though, the black finish combined with that older-style silver spigot stem just works incredibly well. It is simple and elegant.
